Patricia Stokely, Ed.S., KPA-CTP (Pat)
Pat founded "We Just Click!" dog training in 2011 following a long career in school psychology. She has been training dogs professionally since 1998 following graduation from Northstate K-9 Academy at Tarheel Canine Training, Sanford, NC. More recently she graduated from the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behavior and became one of their Certified Training Partners (KPA CTP).
Pat has provided animal assisted therapy and education at schools, retirement homes and hospitals for almost 20 years. She brings a range of experience addressing educational challenges and interventions for children to her work today with dogs and their humans.
Pat has authored articles in The Arabian Horse Journal, Poodle Variety, People, Animals, Nature and Karen Pryor Clicker Training.
Pat met her first therapy dog, Sammy, as an adolescent following the death of her father. He was her male miniature poodle who, along with other dogs, helped her come to understand the therapeutic value of a sensitive dog.
Pat’s training and therapy dog work is dedicated to her parents for instilling a love of animals, to her therapy dogs who have given love and therapy so graciously to people and to all dog/handler teams working to to serve others. She is pictured here with her partner Molly outside a high school where she worked with two classes of students receiving special education services.
Ch. Safari's Intrigue, CGC (Delilah)
Delilah was a wonderful black standard poodle. She came to live with Pat following her show career at age 3. She had a gentle, friendly spirit and beautiful brown eyes that brought smiles and warmth to everyone she met. She partnered with Pat doing therapy dog work and teaching therapy dog training classes.
Delilah brought a very special gift of hope to those she visited in hospital. Her vet designated her a “medical miracle” when she not only survived, but thrived following emergency surgery for gastric volvulus with perforation years ago. Her story of survival against the odds continues to inspire many people facing medical challenges today. Sadly, Delilah passed away in January 2018 of liver cancer. She is dearly missed.
Safari's It's Springtime!, CGC (Spring)
Spring is a sensitive eleven year old white standard poodle who has been doing therapy dog work with children with special needs since she was a year old. She has partnered with Pat facilitating a group for children on the autism spectrum at a psychiatric hospital. By responding to cues from the kids, she helped them develop impulse control, observation skills, turn-taking ability and the desire to follow directions. Spring has also worked professionally and nonprofessionally with school children from Early Childhood Special Education through High School.
